Acknowledgements

In compiling this inventory I have made much use of the publications listed under Further Reading, and of the Photo Library database maintained by the Koninklijk Instituut voor het Kunstpatrimonium / Institut royal du Patrimoine artistique in Brussels (available online at http://www.kikirpa.be).

I am grateful to Jean-Luc Pypaert for sharing with me his extensive database of sculpted memorials, compiled during the 1990s, and to Johanna van Nieuwstadt for kindly allowing me to see her 1995 MA thesis, brought to my attention by Hugo van der Velden, which included in its appendices an annotated list of sculpted memorials in Tournai and the surrounding region. In addition the mémoire en licence of Manuela Valentino entitled Les taulets des XIVe et XVe siècles conservés en Province de Hainaut. Recherches quantitatives, iconographiques, stylistiques et attributions (Université Libre de Bruxelles, 2003) includes a catalogue of sculpted memorials in Hainaut, although this thesis was inaccessible to me during the course of this research.

I am also most grateful to Richard Brine, Lorne Campbell, Bart Fransen, Juan-José Garcias, Susie Nash, Ludovic Nys, Dominique Vanwijnsberghe, Hugo van der Velden, Geraldine Victoir and Kim Woods for their kind assistance, and to Truus van Bueren and Charlotte Dikken for making the inventory's publication online possible.

- Douglas Brine, Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas), September 2012.
