Additional information
General remarks There is some additional information concerning the people who were not portrayed, but mentioned in the name list under the image of the Holy Sepulchre:
  • Jan Florisz died ca. 1495
  • Jacob Simonsz Loo was town counselor of Haarlem (1492, 1493), and died presumably in 1498, on the way home from Jerusalem. He is the father of the Jacob Simonsz Loo depicted in the painting.
  • Klaas van Assendelft was lord of Assendelft from 1487 onwards, counselor of Holland, bailiff of Kennemerland, Brederode and Beverwijk, steward of West-Friesland, 'hoogheemraad' of Delfland, bailiff of Schoonhoven, and died in 1501.
  • Floris Diertsz. Gael was wine seller and member of the Christmas Guild. He died in 1497.
  • Klaas Jacobsz. may be the same 'Claes Jacobszone de la ville de Harlem' who is mentioned by Georges Lengherand of Mons as a fellow traveller in the latter's travel journal of 1486 (see Lampen, p. 285). It is unsure whether this is the same person who is mentioned in Claes van Dusen's report of 1492, together with Klaas Ijsbrantsz.
  • Dirk van Almonde, sheriff of Haarlem in 1494, 1501, 1507, died after 1508.
  • Huijch Jansz. van Rijk died in 1515.
  • Peter van Hogendorp died on the way to Jerusalem in 1517.
  • Klaas van Dusen was a Venice-based travel agent from Haarlem in the service of Venice shipowner family Contarini, which specialized in organizing Holy Land travels (1484-1496). Klaas wrote a travel report about the pilgrimage.
  • Willem van Sabelen probably died in 1522 or 1523 and was Knight of the Holy Sepulchre.
  • Jacob de Waal van Rozenburg died in 1524.
  • Jacob Dirksz Helmbreker died in 1524 on the way back from Jerusalem.
  • Willem Bol van Zanen is mentioned by Arent Willemsz of Delft as travel companion in 1525. He died in Jaffa on 26 August of the same year.
  • Bloijs van Treslong died in 1526.
  • Gerbrant Victorsz was also mentioned in 1525 by Arent Willemsz of Delft as travel companion.
  • Gerrit Tijmansz was a Dominican monk.
