Jannichgen was the widow of Dirck Jan Luijten. The family lived in Snelrewaard-Lange Linschoten just outside Oudewater.

Short description:

Rectangular 'headstone' (hooftstuck) featuring two lines of inscription in Gothic textualis with the name of the deceased and the date, the second line being interrupted by a small shield in the centre

Blue limestone

Dimensions:

50 x 75 cm

Condition:

The slab is complete, but cracked and worn in places with bad pitting, especially on the right side

Inscription:

'Jannichgen Dirck Jan Luijten wedue sterf [...] 1519'

Translation:

Jannichgen, widow of Dirck Jan Luijten, died [...] 1519

Language:

Dutch

Heraldry:

Three lozenges 2 and 1, in chief a dog or bear passant. The charge three lozenges 2 and 1 is typical for this region in central Holland and Utrecht.
