General remarks: |
A sketch by the Utrecht antiquary Aernout van Buchel (Buchelius, 1565-1641) shows the same heraldry
(but with the lower quarters reversed) on the lost floor slab of Hugo Snel, licentiate in civil and canon law
and canon of St Peter's church, Utrecht (d. Utrecht, 18 February 1540), who was a son of Jacob Gerritz. and Lijsbeth
Gerijt Heijnrickzdochter. The Van Zijl heraldry also occurs on the double slab to members of
the Van Swieten and Van Zijl families and to that of Celi van Zijl, 2 and 1. |
